Move Beyond US Censuses Records to Overcome Obstacles and Brick Walls

Using case studies, Bill takes participants through alternative record sources and creative approaches to overcome obstacles and brick walls created by pesky ancestors who frustrate researchers! The presentation is NOT theoretical. It does NOT include the traditional usual alternatives of BMDs, state censuses, city directories, or land records. IT IS practical and “hands on.” Participants will learn 16 useful tips and techniques plus 7 lessons learned over forty-plus years of applied genealogical research. They will vicariously experience thrills associated with overcoming obstacles and busting through brick walls!

The virtual doors will open between noon and 12:30 p.m. and those of you who join online can chat with one another on Zoom before the meeting begins at 1:00 p.m.

Forensic Genetic Genealogy:  A Game Changer In Cold Casework

Forensic Genetic Genealogy (FGG) has developed into a game changer for violent offenders and unidentified humans remains cases. Although the news of the identification of the Golden State Killer using FGG grabbed the headlines in 2018, the application of FGG to cold case work actually started with the Sarah Yarborough homicide in 2011. As of December 2023, over 1100 cases have been made public that were solved using FGG. This talk will discuss (1) how FGG happened, (2) how FGG works, and (3) how well FGG works, all illustrated with simple to understand case studies.

The virtual doors will open between noon and 12:30 p.m. and those of you who join online can chat with one another on Zoom before the meeting begins at 1:00 p.m.
