WAGS members and the public are invited to attend any of our Life Story Writers Group Meetings. These meetings create supportive spaces for members to share writing about their personal life stories, or those of their family members and ancestors. Attendees are welcome to share their writing or to listen to others for inspiration.
Writing prompts are offered each month to help inspire your writing. The writing prompts are meant to be suggestions only. Members are welcome to share their writing on any topic related to their own lives or the lives of their family members. The current writing prompts are listed below.

Documenting the Voyage of Your Immigrant Ancestor
Coming to America was a memorable event in the lives of our ancestors, no matter the time period. Choose one ancestor and answer as many of the following questions as you can:
- Who accompanied your ancestor on the voyage?
- What was their occupation?
- What was their intended destination?
- · Where did they embark on the voyage?
- What was their final destination?
- Why did it change?
- What was the name of the ship?
- What type of ship was it?
- Who was the captain?
- · How many days did the voyage take?
- · What were the living conditions on the ship?
- What major world events were happening at the time of the voyage?
- Why did your ancestor make this voyage?
- Were there economic, political, or religious reasons for leaving their home country?
- Did they join other family members after arriving?
- Or did they come first and wait for others to join them?
