June 2026 Writing Tips
- Use simple words. Plain language beats pompous or highly technical language; your goal is to sound like yourself.
- Limit the scope of your story. One family group, one family line, or one individua? It is not realistic to write a single story to cover an entire genealogy. Don't bite off more than you can chew.
- Work from a timeline. This will help you keep on track and not become confused by similar names, dates, or locations.
- Determine how you want to organize your research. Group by generation, move forward or backward in time, or by suject matter.
- If you plan or publishing or posting your stories, always cite your sources! These can be at the bottom of the page or in an index at the end.
